My Story

Hi, my name is Megan Jawor! I have been living in the city of New Hudson (near South Lyon), a small community located in the Metro Detroit area, for most of my life. I am currently a senior at South Lyon High School and I plan on attending Central Michigan University in the Fall. I have been an athlete for my entire life, as I have been playing both softball and basketball for over 13 years now. I have also been on the high school Varsity softball team for all four years, and Varsity basketball for two. Throughout my career, I have been voted team captain for both sports more than once. I was captain of both my 7th and 8th grade basketball teams, as well as my JV team as a sophomore. As for softball, I was voted team captain for both my Junior and Senior year on the Varsity team. As important as sports are to me, my faith in God is my greatest commitment in life. He is the reason I am alive and blessed today. Because my faith is a such a key part of my life, I regularly attend and volunteer at 2|42 Community Church in Brighton, Michigan. I am also a member of the National Honor Society, as I have learned to appreciate the importance of giving back. This year, I have been working with the Goodfellas Project, a non-profit, student-run organization in helping those in need. In addition to serving my community, I love helping others in my school as well. I am a mentor for incoming Freshmen, as well as a PEER for students with disabilities. Although I love talking to and working with others, I am an avid listener as well. I enjoy listening to others' ideas, and I am always eager to learn new things. Last but certainly not least, I love working with kids. I have been babysitting ever since I was in middle school, whether it be for a family friend or for a teacher or coach. It is my goal to impact the lives of future generations, which is why I plan on majoring in Education.

Here Is A Little Bit About Me...

Education
\

I have been attending school in South Lyon for my entire life. I was enrolled at Dolsen Elementary from my first day of Preschool all the way until my last day of 5th grade and then moved on to Centennial Middle School for the following three years. I am currently finishing my 4th and final year at South Lyon High School. In the last two years, I have taken three Advanced Placement classes including AP Microeconomics, AP Government and Politics, and AP Spanish. In addition, I have also successfully completed three online college courses at Washtenaw Community College through our school's Dual Enrollment program. I plan on graduating with my class in June of 2018, and attending Central Michigan University in the Fall to study Education.

Experiences: Work & Volunteerism

With an incredibly busy school year, I managed to work a couple jobs during the summers. My first job included delivering food and water, training new employees, and arranging rooms for large meetings, weddings, and other celebrations at Meadowbrook Country Club. I worked this job during the summer before my junior year of high school. It was a challenging job as a 16 year old, but it definitely prepared me for situations in the real world.

The other job I held was during the summer before my senior year. My position was as a server at Dee's Place in Whitemore Lake. At this little ice cream shop on the lake, I learned some great communication skills, while getting to enjoy a nice view. This job mostly consisted of preparing food and ice cream for customers. I worked hard enough to become a shift leader, which required me to open and close the shop, along with managing other employees on the job.

The Goodfellas Project

These pictures show my softball team and the members of  the National Honor Society working with the Goodfellas Project at Active Faith. We put together 6,000 bags, and sorted all kinds of food for the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

2|42 Community Church Student Ministry

These pictures provide a good representation of what 2|42 Students is all about. My friends and I volunteer as student leaders at this church and we like to welcome new students to our ministry.
